Retention of eucalyptus harvest residues reduces soil compaction caused by deep subsoiling

چکیده
Abstract Eucalyptus harvesting, forwarding and soil tillage operations are among the main causes for compaction of forest soils, with potential impacts on productivity. This concern is especially important in areas soils that naturally compacted (fragipans duripans). In these include use subsoilers can reach depths more than one meter require heavy tractors exert high pressure soil. One ways to try minimize effect this by retaining harvest residues. The objective study was evaluate eucalyptus harvesting physical attributes, as well determine different types residue management reduce from operation. Two experiments were conducted same area a Yellow Argisol. first experiment, caused mechanized harvester + forwarder evaluated. second managements residues examined modifiers during new plantings. For this, three systems tested: (1) retention all litter previous rotation (HR L), (2) (L), (3) removal (WR). Before after harvest, sampling carried out planting rows inter-rows, tillage, samples collected traffic line subsoiler-tractor set. both experiments, undisturbed center 0–10, 10–20, 20–40, 40–60, 60–100 cm layers density total porosity. each period site evaluation, mechanical resistance penetration up 60-cm depth also determined. operation increased at 0–10 only inter-rows. Retention L) avoided increases machine tillage. results indicate importance achieving sustainable utilization conserving quality.

Errors in determination of soil water content using time domain reflectometry caused by soil compaction around waveguides
[1] Application of time domain reflectometry (TDR) in soil hydrology often involves the conversion of TDR-measured dielectric permittivity to water content using universal calibration equations (empirical or physically based). Deviations of soil-specific calibrations from the universal calibrations have been noted and are usually attributed to peculiar composition of soil constituents, such as ...
متن کاملOn the Compaction and Viscous Behavior of Deep-Water Reservoirs
There have been many studies on reservoir compaction where different mechanisms being suggested as the reasons behind the integrity of unconsolidated reservoirs during production. Theory of poroelasticity is often used to evaluate the likelihood of compaction under these circumstances, but it is often failed to explain the creep behavior of unconsolidated formations. In this study, attempts are...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of dynamic soil compaction with vibratory compaction equipment
Roller drums make use of various shapes and their dynamic compaction effect is achieved by different kinds of dynamic excitation systems. The bearing capacity of layered soil constructions can be measured during the soil compaction process. The finite element method has been applied for dynamic analyses using elastic models. For the realistic simulation of the dynamic compaction process it is n...
متن کاملUptake of inorganic and amino acid nitrogen from soil by Eucalyptus regnans and Eucalyptus pauciflora seedlings.
This study examined whether two species of Eucalyptus can take up the amino acid glycine from soil and compared the uptake rate of glycine with the uptake rates of nitrate and ammonium. Ectomycorrhizal seedlings of two ecologically disparate species were studied: Eucalyptus regnans F. Muell., a fast-growing forest tree from low altitudes; and Eucalyptus pauciflora Sieber ex Spreng., a slow-grow...
